You could have blown me down with a feather, especially with that howling wind outside late yesterday afternoon. Clearly the work experience kiddie was running The Dome and had left it parked out over Hervey Bay for a change. Around 5pm suddenly an orange red mass that wasnt POTUS appeared south of Tiaro and on track to slip under us as usual. Then it kinda straightened a tad – a well known meteorological term – and came straight for us. Despite the almost black dot sitting right over Maryhole not much storm activity but some nice rain. They say 20mm but suggest that is some guy measuring that 😉 It was a perfect follow up to the deluge pre SOS. Devoted followers and casual stalkers would know that due to some current physical impairment – ok additional physical impairments – I am limited to mowing fairways at GC mostly at present. The fairways were rather perfect last week but only takes a couple of weeks of scorching temps to brown them and associated staff off! This 1-20 mm will do wonders for at least 3 days. Another 5-10 today would be tres nice.
After SOS had to stay around Sunny Coast for MRI and Surgeon appointment on Monday – surgeon of course cancelling at short notice on Friday. Despite being assured said surgeon would review MRI and phone me am still waiting a week later. Not a big issue as not lining up in any hurry if the slice and dice caper is indicated but at least would appreciate the prognosis as fans are necessarily concerned. Of course two guarantees with surgeons are they charge like a bull and are arrogant. The MRI was an experience in itself. Not claustrophobic as such although a little unsettling. Because of needing to do shoulder I was told to breathe at absolute minimum as shoulder needed to be steady for shots. This I found to be very difficult to do and as such images not crystal clear but at least “informative”. As in yes you do have a right shoulder still. Not being one to let grass grow under my feet despite recent rain have booked in to see Physio today to start some sort of regimen to strengthen shoulder sans surgery. If that works will proceed onto rest of body. Could be 40 days and nights of banging and hammering but at end of it may just be ship shape. Or at least a lot poorer
Apart from not being a big fan of men in masks with knives it is now <100 days until "Wired for Winter" in USA and while actual procedure may not be that big the after surgery care is prolonged as in 3-6 months. Cant be chipping ice of may galoshes with arm in sling. While waiting for WFW to roll around have been looking a bit into the RTW options with Qantas as my FF accrue at a steady rate. Not steady enough it seems as only just half way to the golden 280k which can get you Business Class all the way travelling up to 35,000 k. Of course that is in theory. Try actually finding "reward" seats in BC for the majority of flights you want and you have better chance of finding a Marsh that can bat on UAE pitches. Still it filled in a couple of hours in the day and at the end just left frustrated so Ladies now I know how it feels
Speaking of USA, the Mid Terms approach with what seemed a fairly obvious result but nothing is routine in US Politics. A range of mostly sad events have cast a pall over it all and quite hard to determine which way the rather dumb masses will go. I have never seen anyone in a position of power like Buffoon Bob tell so many blatant, easily disproven , lies and just keep going day after day. Then he has his moronic suggestions like arm everyone in churches and it will all be fine. Of course , not as if the Dems are rolling out an A Team anytime soon. You wish you could say well its not my country so doesnt matter but when it is USA it does matter. And there will be an economic collapse sooner rather than later
Sportswise the NRL coaching merry go round is embarrassing to say the least and totally predictable. Journos, the good ones, know what is going to happen months out and although scenarios seem unlikely they invariably happen as predicted. Much like an Aussie batting collapse in the cricket. My interest in all forms of cricket is plummeting at an alarming rate. Good golf can still be found all around the world luckily as their wrap around season seems to run 14 months every year now.
So, while last night was a very pleasant interlude from the 34 degree scorchers you know they will be back with a vengeance and here to stay. Maryhole summers are unpleasant with scorching dry heat most days interspersed with the occasional dangerous storm. One could spend all year chasing winter quite easily – apart from the financial aspect of course. Mind you when you do catch winter as we did in Corkilkenny earlier in the year it can be brutal. The beauty of growing old though is those bad memories fade quicker than golf ball size hail on the ground. In summer. In Maryhole.
