Nanook of the North – Philly Day 7

Posted: March 10, 2015 in Travel

Last full day in Philly and likely last day of being full in Philly. The forecast – which is never wrong – said morning good, afternoon bad. So the plan for today was two fold, much like my waistline at present. First up head down to Italian Market and then follow the Mural Mile and check on the ones I have not seen yet. Headed off along South Street which certainly is an interesting street with a vast array of different “establishments” . Then down 9th to the Italian Market. Ok, this was more like the Queen Vic markets in Melbourne. Had a rather excellent coffee at Anthony’s Coffee and Financial Advice Emporium. Think the secret was the double shot. Plenty of fresh produce of course but when walked past one store and heard the words ” do you want head on or off” I was intrigued. Was it a fish monger? When I didn’t see any sign of animal , plant or vegetable and the guy behind the counter wore a 3 piece suit and Spatz, I put my head down and kept walking.

The Mural Mile is easy enough to follow with excellent directions available on line. By now I was able to use the mobile phone on the street during the day as it was a positively balmy 3 or 4 degrees. This was handy because as my nearest and dearest would confirm , my sense of direction is not that good especially NSEW kinda caper. The murals varied but were mostly stunning and well worth the effort. Saw a couple of other interesting sights along the way. The ankle was a bit dodgy now so time to head home for a bit of a rest.

Will be a quiet afternoon, plenty of eating and drinking options nearby if rain does set in. At end of day pretty well ready to come home but do of course dread the next 36 hrs with trains, planes and automobiles. Still at the end of it all will see my Gracie again and then a little after that catch up with Jas and da boys. Brody has stared crawling just in the 3 weeks been away, they grow up so quickly. Mind you at that age he couldn’t crawl too far so sure we will find him eventually. So it’s not all doom and gloom folks except for you who will no longer have my posts to amuse and enthrall your mundane existences 🙂

Life is good.
