Bigger, Better but not really Brighter but enough about me. Our version of Coachella where music is replaced by booze and desert heat by rain. Apparently.

Weather forecast was a tad grim so headed down on Wednesday in what was actually the heaviest rain would experience for next few days . Duh. On way down got my Telehealth call from Bali ( the doctor not the island) and for a quick $100 he told me all looks good but if want screws out its another surgery yada yada yada. Suggested we may just sit on it for a while then but he said always better if you stand on them. Surgeon humour. So with one bill out of the way just need to see GP to get new referral letter as last one expired. Basically spend $40 to get $40 back but need current referral letter for any slice and dice next 12 months.

Plan then was also to get two crowns put in on Thursday before Easter by new dentist at Nambour having been assured I could still eat chocolate and go horse back riding straight afterwards. Good dentist and of course crowns are not cheap but next job he wants to retire on is an implant which is even more expensive. As usual you have your mouth full of tools and he keeps asking you questions. Then with mouth fully numb they give a you a free coffee voucher while you wait for the crowns to be made! Drink hot fluid and dribble – what could go wrongπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Then it was just a case of waiting for the gang to roll in over a spaced timetable . A few groups took the 2 night package which included a signed poster of hosts (see below). RJER set up camp in the front yard while TB set up Van adjacent to drinking area. With age comes wisdom. BC2 and Quinn went for the loft apartment which comes with its own white noise to assist sleeping. Then it was time for a swim with the Munchkins as weather was good

Well that gets an appetite going so must be lunch time. Good time to test out new outdoor seating set up. Worked so well we (ok Bruce) came up with idea to have the big lunch out there next day, weather dependant.

Then came that tricky time when you have to do something between lunch and drinkies. I know what I wanted but the other Flash got there first! Trust me Flash 2 I have tried that look and it doesnt work😎

Thought went into drink menu. As in, make sure we have plenty. Always wine and beer of course but for the 2 night free loaders we start with Aperol Spritzers on Night 1. Very noice especially when we added more aperol for colour only Your Honour second time around

Being Friday it was fish for dinner as we settled in under some grey skies

Everyone behaved themselves and retired for the night as the big day was still to arrive. Some rain during the night but woke again to a good day so went ahead with Plan A – get to that bloody chair before that dog! Another swim and then set up the outdoor areas – eating and drinking . This could catch on

All the gang was here including ADJG who were camping in the Garage – you snooze you lose πŸ€“ A lovely lunch accompanied by several bottles of the grape stuff as the weather still held. It was also doubling as a 40th Birthday celebration for BC 1 which can only mean one thing. CLP is a lot older than I realisedπŸ•ΊπŸ»

Lovely relaxing afternoon then before the first of our guests started to head home mid afternoon. This just left the drinkers which could only mean one thing. It was Muling Time! I get the Moscow connection with Vodka but not sure where the Mule comes from. Anyhoo, very passable until you have too many and cant pass another down.🫏🦍

One last dinner then of leftovers as once again the rain stayed away. The serious boys then went through the Rum Liquor selection that Bruce had bought up to Toast BC 1 while the ladies did secret womens business. Then he bought out the Tullamore Dew and the rest is a blur. I did wake up next morning to Munchkins running around with arms full of chocolates and wondered – was I ever that young?? I know Easter Eggs were certainly smaller in my day.

One last big meal then of eggs and bacon before the happy campers started to pack up and head home slowly. The idea to sit outside all weekend certainly made the decamping easier. And so another wonderful Easter weekend came to an end which only leaves one thing to say .

Well its been 3 weeks back in the land of the not quite dead so lets review the tape. We will start with the good news as it wont take long. The dreaded lurgy may finally be cracked, boxed and buried. Basically been crook since got COVID on Boxing Day and then a new bug in USA with two days sunshine in between. Speaking of which, the hottest dryest summer on record almost washed the house away and certainly buried the golf course. Finally some solid mowing there yesterday and first game of golf for about 6 weeks tomorrow. If I wasnt a natural talent I may struggle to play to handicap. Mind you this may be final year of golf anyway for a number of reasons and not including that in the good news section.

Speaking of supreme physical specimen was doing some leg stretches on Saturday just in case a late call up for Paris Olympics. Noticed a new sensation in the general vicinity of the fused ankle. Now a fused ankle comes with a range of sensations even 18 months post surgery. One new one would not be in excess would it?

This one felt like a couple of cold needles pressed into flesh above ankle on left. If I have any more issues with this ankle then I am screwed. Actually as it turns out, I am unscrewing. If we review the tape from 18 months ago and 18 hrs ago I think we see the problem.

I am no Orthopod but doubt that is supposed to happen especially if associated with vague pain. Contacted surgeon but he was at a Meccano Retrospective in Birdsville for the weekend. So, physician heal thyself. What I found is that after 3 hours mowing on Sidewinder the ankle is so swollen that you no longer see the screws. Yay. Sadly around midnight the swelling has decreased and the feeling of someone dripping cold water on your ankle returns. Of course could also indicate another pee stop is needed after 5 hrs sleep. Lets move further north as the Bishop said to the Actress. We can probably safely assume that the left shoulder is as good as its going to get so lets file this away in the “definitely not good news” folder. Its not debilitating as such but certainly limited movement for certain exercises like military presses etc. If the right shoulder is the benchmark (for doing benchpresses) and we give it a 9.5/10 score then the left shoulder comes in at 7.1 I guess. (gave it an extra 0.1 cause its way cool having matching scars). Which reminds me, the tatt hasnt washed off yet. Yay. The real issue with these continuing medical situations (apart from cost!) is it makes it virtually impossible to get into any routine of gym, golf, walking, ice skating….One thing I know about me is that I need physical activity to keep the kgs at bay. Simply eating better doesnt do it if sit around all day. And before you say it I hate bike riding whether moving or stationary. There was that one time 10 years ago when it felt really great until after 10 minutes realised the seat had fallen off at the start. On a side note never understand people who go to the gym just to use walking treadmills. Duh?

No great desire to return to the USA at this stage so thats good. Also good not to be constantly monitoring Qantas flight delays. CLP is always gagging for OS travel so we looked at places where the exchange rate is not too bad and settled on Canada. The plan then is a few weeks in September this year just checking out some major cities like Vancouver and Toronto but not venturing into Bear country or even a Miffed Moose hopefully.

After that can probably pack the passport away. Apparently…. too soon? Did note this week that Qantas is hiking the price of Club membership so maybe thats a sign. Never been a very frequent flyer anyway but do enjoy some perks when I do.

The usual Della Clanfest is on again this Easter at Flashman Inc, Rainy Coast. Taking a few choccie eggs for the girls and a Phillips Head screwdriver just in case. In the meantime days are easily filled in with the biggest issue facing a troubled world at present but I am on the case

The next 36 hrs helps to solidify plans not to come to USA again. Have had a good run with flights etc but now we get to testy end. There have been issues with Qantas and US flights last couple of days as I follow these things – and people in NRL Vegas group ticked off. Flights from both Melbourne and Sydney have been cancelled on different days this last few days. At present my QF 12 is scheduled to leave on time and chances of that occurring have improved with in coming flight QF 11 landing soon. Of course the flight home is 15 hrs rather than 13 hrs coming over despite being downhill. Wind currents I assume.

What was supposed to be a cloudy day has dawned absolutely glorious and no doubt they had employed some work experience kids from the clown school aka BOM in Australia for today’s forecast. Las Vegas may be the city for getting lucky but think Rusty scored last night . Time to head off for last decent coffee for 36 hrs

Such a glorious day plans have changed slightly. I’m staying another week. Ah nope, but will head down to Pier for one last time – it apiers πŸ€“ – and then come back later and do some packing. Cold is mostly gone but still a sniffle and cough so soak up some sun would be great.

Simply stunning. Never tire of that view especially on a quiet day. Time then to do some packing before heading down to 3rd street Promenade for a couple of hours as do have some scooter credit to use up. I may well end up spending $100 on scooter rides but it has been a blast and still do plenty of walking in between.

Off to 3rd Street Promenade for my farewell parade. Hmm, not a big turnout . Ok I can sit and wait

Eventually woke up next to an Italian cafe with a not so subtle message. It’s no farewell parade but I get the message fella

Plane still on time at this stage. Have received a few bid upgrades for Qantas for BC so must not be full yet. Not paying cash but may ask at check in if any pts upgrade available but only for aisle seat . Not a big deal. 15 hrs is going to drag regardless. Anyhoo will sign off on the holiday now which just leave some Flashies.

Routed@66 – Day 13 and 14

Unlucky for some . Maybe me. Cold is still lingering and very annoying . I can deal with it ok now – except at night with coughing fits – but need it cleared off in 48 hrs for the long haul home. Yesterday was peak of weather I suspect with a more cloudy day today and possible rain tomorrow. Rain will be difficult to deal with as nothing really to do indoors (unlike Vegas) and a long walk/ride anywhere for anything and most of it out in the open. These sort of endings to holidays may finally convince me this is the last trip to USA ….apparently. Tiresome yet πŸ€”

So let’s go for a morning constitutional in this amazing neighbourhood. Have not seen a car under 80k parked on the street . Imagine what is in the double garage . I suspect it’s a right leaning area full of nuts. Examples A and B Your Honour. Ya cant fool squirrels .

Tried a new coffee place a bit further up Montana Ave and just short of the Dutton Ranch. This area is so classy they call a Cortado a Gibraltar which may explain why it has become my rock. Here all week, try the ….ah actually no I leave on Tuesday 😰

They are a lot stricter on Seniors over here especially if we get caught short out on our walks. Must have had a lot of issues to need the signage now. Don’t know how the blind elderly would know just because you include a picture of their guide dog there as well πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Time then to check on Rusty my trusty steed is still where I parked him with a bale of hay last night and not stuck up on bricks. Mind you in this neighbourhood more likely they call the cops to report possible undesirables in area . With clear head did finally work out something this morning that has been bugging me. The room is fine and similar to advertised but the photos are different. This morning I met the second Tennent on my walk – you know the one in the room with the pictures on line πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ I have only had emails back and forth with owner but when mentioned things about missing hot tub and different entrance etc she never told me there were two rooms. It’s not a big deal but strange especially as no one in the 125 reviews online mention it πŸ€”

Hi Ho Rusty. Can’t be a day in SM without first checking out The Pier. Pretty quiet at 830 am on a Sunday, just the way I like it and very peaceful to sit and watch the ocean which has some surprising good waves . Not sure but think I saw Hindy catching some zzz on beach after big night.

Due to events at home will take a break rest of day and continue tomorrow .

Did spend a lovely afternoon yesterday as the weather cleared and could be last good weather of holiday . Started with a can of Seltzer in fridge which I thought would quench the thirst. Then I read the alcohol % and decided much walking, not riding, needed. It was busy in town on a Sunday but very pleasant and then ended up down near the water as yet another booteeful sunset approached . It was a bit cool by now and easy for us Seniors to get caught out if stay out long 😏

Monday has dawned dreary and cloudy as predicted. Cloud I can deal with after a couple of beautiful afternoons of late . Rain not so much . It’s not so much that I don’t have a wet weather jacket, more a case of need it dry before packing tomorrow . There is no laundry here so am starting to accumulate some dirty clothes now . And my honeybuns thought I wasn’t bringing her back anything from the USA 😏. Got my morning walk in under cloudy skies with my Cortado and then decided to walk a bit as cough and sniffles have returned. Very peaceful beachside but quite breezy which really messed up my hair.

Hi Ho Rusty . Time to head out for morning . Breezy and cool but no rain to speak of. Lovely and quiet on the Pier at this time of day . I could fall asleep

Gave Rusty a sugar cube and headed off for a walk around downtown. Certainly quieter than on weekend but really starting to go up and down same streets and see same sights . 4 days sounds about max for SM

I like the mall on 3rd street and plenty of chairs set out chilling so was when I look across street and see a Rabbitohs cap on guy sitting in a chair. Called out β€œGoing to the Game β€œ? β€œYep, hey aren’t you Dave from FB group NRL Las Vegas been doing all the posts? I recognise the beard” Fame eh. Gave him an autograph and had a chat and some tips on Vegas. He will go home happy now even when Rabbits lose.

Then it was time for lunch and drinkies – you know 11 am. I was approaching The Misfit when I saw about 50 m away a recommended English Pub, The Kings Head so thought why not. A beer and a ploughman lunch was certainly very filling.

Checkout tomorrow is 11 am but host is letting me stay on until 2 pm which is great . Still a long wait at LAX but 3 hrs shorter and basically gives me an extra half day in SM. To be fair though not much more to see or do. Just about done with the eating and drinking caper as even with a lot of walking feeling a bit chunky and uncomfortable, not helped by the dreaded lurgy. At this stage happy to come home as also other more important things to handle and help with back home. I suspect will be back down beachside this afternoon, weather permitting. It is relaxing and perfect place to chill so will sign off now for today.

And it is no longer a question but now a fact

Room is fine but in a house you do hear other people around. One of those beds with 3000 soft pillows and thermonuclear doonas and no AC. May sweat out cold eh. After all the walking late yesterday woke up this morning and felt old age creeping up on me. Then realised it was just a full length mirror. Whew.

Cloudy cool start to day so headed out a bit overdressed in search of coffee and success almost immediately. Only 10 min walk and will be my go to these few days . Absolutely beautiful neighbourhood for a walk

Then it was time to head off on a Mural Hunt up Wilshire which is a long street trust me . By time got about 2/3 way up saw enough murals and time to scoot home . Of course SM uses Veo not Lime so another app and account to set up. Need it though this far from the action

Very productive morning and still only 0830 . What does a 66 yr old do now πŸ€”

Back in the room and start coughing and spluttering again now so time to switch to T Shirt and hope my scooter is still where I parked it on street . Yay

Certainly done a lot of scooting this holiday – some boot, some just scoot. SM is perfectly set up for it with dedicated bike lanes on all major streets. $3.50 to save on a 30 min walk is a bargain . Mind you still like to walk a bit to combat the caloric intake. But not today, it’s my birthday . Still. So first a scoot to the Pier and then saw some electric bikes which seemed to make more sense for long trek to Venice Beach . The row after row of beach volleyball courts was amazing. There were some Venice Canals close but also some far canals…

Bike was still humming along so let’s try and head out to Venice High School for some Summer Lovin. Never would have walked it trust me . It was turning into a special day

Heading back to Venice Beach and just made it when got low battery warning. Can’t just park these anywhere so had to wheel it about 500 m to next designated zone . Found a new one and scooted back to Santa Monica Pier. Time for some food and drinkies. Had found The Misfit a few years ago and seemed a great place to start with half price cocktails . Or not. The Tacos were superb.

Then the trouble started . My Honeybuns said give me a call when β€œbetween drinks β€œ So I did . Then I had a couple more . Moscow Mule is my new fave

The real dilemma building here is I have a free bottle of wine and two cans of beer to drink at the room. Ok it’s Chardonnay but it’s free. Going to need to settle in for the afternoon one day but maybe not today. Weather has cleared and now I need some exercise . A 100 m walk to my trusty steed should do and then it’s all bets off.

Actually decided to walk up to Montana next street over for some supplies as think lunch out and dinner in is the plan. That was some exercise at least so time to try one of these free beers. There is access to a backyard area which is perfect now on a clear warm day . The 6.9% could be a concern for us elderly. That is tomorrows problem.

Now , where is my steed? Ah just where I left it of course. Scoot down to Pier and then head into 3 rd Avenue mall for a gander. Quite crowded of course being a Saturday . Nothing appealed apart form a rooftop bar. What should I try next – ah red wine . Start at the top…….and finish there

A bit more of a wander and a walk over to the beachside . A simply glorious day and would be a glorious sunset no doubt but how many photos can you take . Maybe just one nice and early

It’s still only late afternoon but time to head home on what has been a very full day. I will crack the free Chardonnay and a few nibbles I purchased. The wine had a cork which was interesting but that Trader Joe knows his stuff πŸ˜‚

And so the 36 hr birthday phase draws to an end. Will be a quiet night after a great day . Before I hooked in to more alcohol time to remove film off tattoo and start the moisturiser programme. Very happy with result to date .

Not a lot planned tomorrow except early morning coffee run. I tell ya what , I could easily head back to Misfit and some Tacos and cheap cocktails . Us Senior citizens need our routine

And so we come to end of another Vegas holiday and a great holiday it was even though sick for entirety😏 First up the MGM Signature is fantastic . Great room and great service and amenities. The ankle has been good and really did walk a long way most days . Weather was pretty good and when bad plenty else to do. Found some new places and returned to some old places . People were friendly and struck up conversations in most bars – and you know what a people person I am

I fear Santa Monica may be a let down but could may be completely wrong. The accomodation will certainly be different and pretty basic but as long as quiet will be happy. Weather is a bit hit and miss again it seems and SM is the one place where weather probably is more critical as will be out and about all day. I also think as the long flight home approaches you start to dread it especially as I stupidly booked a later flight out of Sydney home for some reason probably landing me smack bang in peak hour traffic home to Sunshine Coast .

Another bad nights sleep with cold and cough. MGM have been very efficient so when saw the β€œsad to see u go email and check out now β€œ wasn’t thinking too clearly, just keen to sort out the finances. All done and then a bit of packing before getting some breakfast from limited options. As I got to lift and looking at my app my digital access key is gone duh! Had to approach desk and explain while I did check out I didn’t really if u get my drift. She gave me a solid key for next few hours. Flight seems on time at this stage. Quick cheap Uber out and relatively smooth transition had me at gate with a mere 2.5 hrs to spare. Time to settle in for a sandwich and a beer if only to fill in some time. Honest your Honour

To be honest it is moving around being busy that helps deal with the cold better and that includes eating and drinking. I know scientifically it don’t really make sense but was coming good and then got wet going to Allegiant on Wednesday and spent that after with the Canucks in a damp shirt probably πŸ€”

AA has been impressive this trip. Left a little early arrived a little early and bags were not too bad. Was getting an Uber for about $50 which was lot cheaper than taxi especially in afternoon traffic. Of course you have to get a shuttle to the ride share area but after that works well. Very nice house with perfectly acceptable room in a quite neighbourhood

The downside of a very quiet neighbourhood is it is a fair hike to anywhere – 30 mins to pier for eg. That is ok today as the exercise will be good. Mind you one trip to the Pier with these crowds probably enough. Some beautiful scenery along the way

Then it was time to please my Aussie mates who don’t grasp international time zones and start the celebrations of turning 66. #notroutedyet. Plenty of signs around and also the perfect drinkery

Starting to feel it now – ALMOST 66 ya know – and still a 30 min walk home but have to stay around for the sunset as probably won’t get back. Glad I did

Time then for a bit research for next 3 days now that I understand my location. Will also look into the electric scooter availability as a few around but no Lime. I plan to spend more time in downtown Santa Monica and wander the streets . Like a demented old 66 year old.

Tomorrow that is .😎

When returned to unit last night was a tad alarmed to hear a noise and a light was on. Quickly checked passport and it is still there . Then saw it was the TV on and there were bottles of water (having just bought 2πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ) and choccies on nightstand . Man those tattoos get attention

Today will be sad day or maybe start of a sad period . There is a developing family situation back home (not unexpected ) that is a little distressing. Still have a cold and a bad nights sleep. Knees and legs in general are very sore after the half marathon yesterday . Now there is no buyers remorse but maybe some buyer stupidity as in why not wait until this afternoon to go all biker. Could have had a booteeful morning by pool and now I have to go find places indoors and drink. At least it may not be a great day weather wise . Ah crap, best of the holiday so far.

Also washing day of course which does take up a good 90 min period in morning ( right Ladies ) and you need to be close by half way through yada yada yada. It’s quite brisk outside (8 degrees with breeze on top) so maybe help to stay in until after 830 am. First wash on (laundry is in tower 1) and head over to Delights for breakfast in Tower 2 . Somewhat distracted by the sign but managed to make breakfast last 30 mins before heading back to laundry. What about shorts ? That one may haunt for a while

To be fair I may still have been contemplating this scenario when I went in laundry and saw no clothes in machine 1. Oddly also there was no bench with my bags on it . Not just no bags but no bench. What level of thief do they have here. Ah, I am in the laundry in Tower 2 . All good and time to switch to dry and chill in room for 50 mins.

Laundry picked up and then time to head out on this glorious day. Yeah I took same pictures 18 months ago but this COULD be my last trip to USA …..apparently . MGM have obviously got wind of this and desperately trying to get me to come back by bumping me up to gold because I won $20 ?

So, those pictures eh . Take a gander

My research had indicated Ocean One had good value food and drinks. Only needed drinks at this stage and was lucky as the big line up was for food. Flashed the Tatt and was seated at bar immediately. The 3 Cocktails for $12 appealed but guessing not full strength. Yeah right…

Mimosa , Moscow Mule and Tom Collins. Everywhere I go at present am surrounded by Canucks. Another hockey game in town tonight. Officially have wobbly boot on now and need coffee. Well we may always have Paris but won’t be back again ya cheese eating surrender monkeys

Bit more of a wander and dropped in at Giordannos to get some food . Sadly the deep dish pizza took 40 mins so settled for a very tasty Italian sandwich. And beer. Then time to head home to talk to my honeybuns. On discussion we agreed I should go the pool on this glorious day and just cover up Tatt so no damage done and no fights started. It worked well enough but not same as fully relaxing by pool with a swim

Checked in for flight tomorrow which is not until 1pm so will be a relaxing morning and leave around 930 am. Of course no Club as such at Vegas so it is mix with the GU 24/7 . The rest of afternoon will be quiet as quite full at present . Will no doubt duck down for a drink at some stage but will just have to take my word for it I guess. Have my salad in fridge for dinner πŸ‘πŸ»

Routed@66 – Day 9

Posted: February 21, 2024 in Uncategorized

Time to get back on plan although yesterday was a fun afternoon. Talking to bar lady she kept saying you guys are stupid sitting in a bar for 4 hrs when you are in Vegas! I disagreed having already seen a lot of Vegas surely part of the joy of travel is just meeting people and talking and learning about a different country , in this case Canada which was very useful for me. Mind you she was mostly pissed because it was Happy Hours and most people tip on what they paid ($5 beer) rather than what the normal tip would be. Of course that long drinking session did then lead to some wasted hours late afternoon πŸ˜‚

Time to start with a new breakfast place , Avenue in MGM . Weather supposed to improve as day progresses so first up will try out a few more casino complexes . Food was fine but the coffee machine was broken – maybe fortuitous 😏- so was left with jug size serve of brown swill

Time then to hit the road on a cloudy coolish morning but breaks of sun. Plan was to get to Venetian but not blind to making a few stops along the way πŸ€“. Before long it was 5 OClock somewhere and time for a punchy Rum – and they didnt miss the Rumbo trust me. Great way to start the day while you wait for 8 am to come around. I was feeling the Love.

Fully charged now to continue on to the Venetian. All a rather massive complex with Palazzo attached. The Gondolas were having a rest but the real charm is inside in these buildings

Could see The Sphere in distance so thought why not ? Had not been down this far on Strip before so able to see Wynn complexes as well . Wynn Wynn ?

By now am thinking well I’m this close to Resorts World now so may as well check it out eh . Again it seems attached to another complex all framed rather beautifully against blue skies now. Didn’t seem to be much in there until on exit saw the Mike Tyson statue. It’s been that sort of holiday where earnest endeavour is rewarded. Especially when drinking.

Looking at options seemed like another 15 min walk to Sahara to catch Monorail all the way home seemed like a smart idea even though knees and ankle were really hurting by now . Ah there it is in the distance like an oasis in a desert . Spooky

Have no plans to go to a show while here but can almost be certain would not go to Vega to see a shit show 😏 Mind you I just heard that Trump is in town and available for photos near his hotel

Definitely time to head back now on Monorail and may even slip in some pool time before talking to my Honeybuns. It’s been another very busy morning so hope don’t fall asleep and miss my call

Woke up just in time . Weather was still changeable but headed back out to strip with half an idea forming . To be fair had been thinking about this for a while and seemed an appropriate time being in Vegas and last trip to USA …… apparently . Had done my research and knew it’s not cheap but yes time to get a tattoo. The logic is well I am Flash and I turn 66 on my last trip to USA ….apparently. Walk ins accepted as long as your sign all disclaimers about sudden death etc. Took about 30 mins and you certainly feel it but not unbearable . Da Da …..still cheaper than tatt left by Orthopod 😏

I left sleeve rolled up so was given wide berth on way home as people cowered . Time for a beer then but now only allowed in certain pubs and frisked at the door. If I wasn’t careful I could be scooting my boot again real soon. The bartender gave me a dirty look and a dirty glass to match

As mentioned in other media commitments totally sober idea and very happy with end result. However the post tatt care regimen indicates it may not have been that smart doing it on holidays. Certainly no pool or sun tomorrow . For once will be wishing for rain. Anyway tomorrow is last full day and will really miss Vegas , it has been a blast . I will especially miss this view 24/7

Routed@66 – Day 8

Posted: February 20, 2024 in Uncategorized

Looks like the first day of inclement weather has arrived as predicted. Mind you I am looking at weather app as it’s only 5 am and still dark for a while . Cloudy and drizzle expected all day and a little cooler maybe. Slept very well but cold continues to rumble along , not getting worse, not getting better. Today of course could get a whole lot better if a notification received during night is true. I suspect it is a glitch as makes no sense but will have to wait for rewards desk to open up

I did have a couple of drinks last night and used my card but don’t recall ordering two cases of Dom Perignon πŸ€”

Unless I am heading off on a free cruise at 10 am looks like a day to explore inside some casinos and hopefully a little less crowded although with Vegas not sure that ever happens . Will have breakfast just downstairs at Delights which opens at 7 am. Usual big breakfast of course and was very good but bought half home for dinner. Well, if you serve potatoes at breakfast you have to expect this πŸ˜‚

Time then to check on my status at Rewards desk. When they didn’t roll out red carpet on arrival I smelled a rat. β€œ Sir, did you redeem a receipt yesterday β€œ? β€œ Yep for $14” β€œAh, I see what has happened the cashier has entered 1,400,000 points accidentally rather than 140” β€œSo what are you saying ……..

No cruise then . Time to venture out for an Irish Coffee on a day of Irish weather then. I knew RiRa at Mandalay served one so started at Excalibur which is attached by walkway to MGM. Obviously they already knew I was coming

The beauty of this place is there is then a free tram to Mandalay Bay. Had my coffee which was ordinary of course but staff were great. Fair to say they don’t understand difference between Rugby and League . I loved the automatic dish collector πŸ˜‚

The Mandalay Bay setup is great with plenty of shops and a 10 min walk to Allegiant stadium. There is also a Tattoo parlour there. In case I return home with one understand it was a sober decision maybe to celebrate last solo trip to USA …….apparently . Flash, a lightning bolt and 66 maybe πŸ€” Great statue of Ali too. The things you find

It was drizzling rain but was determined to check out Ally Giant stadium #Roy&HG to see if any big promos. Rolled around every 5 mins . Then it was time to head back to House of Blues – next to Tattoo parlour – for a beer and a breather and maybe….

Back home then to have a Stromboli for lunch as remember loving them last time. Can only get a super size drink.

β€œYes Sir but only $1 more than a regular β€œ

β€œ Can I get a regular.then β€œ?

β€œNo”

So how do you price the regular πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Good routine now , weather independent . Breakfast ( always big😏) on site and then head out for a few hours. Back home to talk to my honeybuns at midday so she doesn’t fret ❀️ Back out after 1pm for a couple more hours of fun and frivolity and then back for a breather before heading downstairs to an MGM bar or two around 5 pm for a couple of relaxers. Back for bath ( best bath ever), dinner and sleep. Rinse and repeat . Mind you if Thursday is nice weather may be spent by the pool.

Ok Plan A was blown away by the weather . Took the foot bridge to NYNY and saw a bar Pour 24 that had a happy hour form midday. Sat down , met some Canadians and 5 hrs later crawled home full as a state school hat rack . Good night

Rouuted@66 – Day 7

Lot seen and done in a week eh. This β€œcold” is an odd one. Was mostly fine all yesterday afternoon out and about. Pretty good nights sleep but have woken again with a few coughs and splutters and sniffles. Throat is more dry than sore . Weather is a mixed bag this week with no great clear days predicted but no really bad ones either. Some patches of sun, a lot of cloud and maybe the odd shower. Today supposed to be best day so will try and tick off a few sight seeing plans and then if worse weather comes will haunt the inside of casinos which are fascinating to see really judging by New York New York yesterday. Just occurred to me am paying about $800 USD for this beautiful room in great complex for 5 nights. Paid $1300 for same time in LA and will be about $1000 for a small room at back of house for 4 nights in Santa Monica πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Also plan to really check out the MGM complex and start earning some reward points. Oh that’s right, I’m not coming back….. Meanwhile

It is Presidents Day today so may impact some opening times . Bit of cloud around as predicted but with breaks of sun in morning so will head up to Strat area now as that is most photo wanted for this visit . Caught the Monrail which is great and of course headed off early . Police did crowd control.

I am getting out and about while about 35 people were lined up at Starbucks at 730 in the morning πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ I had forgotten how long the walk from Tower 3 where I am is to actually leave the MGM complex and hit the street. Smart move getting out early though . Multiple exhibits ensue ….

CLP has been dropping big hints lately about a big change in our relationship. Of course she may not mean marriage but couldn’t hurt to get some facts while here. Ah, thank you very much

As you can see clouds starting to roll in, time to head home for some late breakfast in MGM. Not feeling too flash at all at present and health a real roller coaster at present. Am loving the MGM though. Apart from great room etc also discovered a free on site laundry that just needs you to supply the detergent. Local store in Tower 1 sells 3 satchels for $6. Winner Winner. While out strolling I did contemplate about investigating staying on in Vegas and skipping Santa Monica. Would be cheaper and more luxurious !

Time then to check pool out even if just to clear the head and sniffles. Actually quite pleasant . They had a spa section and the pool itself was ok temp wise if a tad bracing . Not too crowded either . Even did some exercises while there .

After a solid hot breakfast no lunch required so early afternoon time to head down to Ole Red on the strip to boot my scoot. It’s an impressive 3 story place that was crowded. Told them I was an Aussie and didn’t need food so sent straight to the 3 rd floor and what a great view out on the Verandah. Even Dr Blake agreed with me

I had a poke before lunch just to rattle up some points and will go down to a bar within complex around 5 for a drink or two. The ankle really is great but the knees are cracking up because as we know 80% of UP elevators don’t work in Vegas at any one time. Still quite sick too which gets worse when I stop moving or drinking. Eataly was on way home and dropped in for a very pleasant latte and cannoli.

So, that will do for another day as the weather starts to deteriorate . Has been a very lucky holiday so far with flights etc but have not quite nailed it for weather last few years. It’s not bad sure but just not that bracing that I like as evidenced by shorts and TShirt. Mind you 75.4 % of people around are dressed up like Nanook of the North. Other thing you notice is there really is a lot of ugly couples in USA . But they seem happy πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ And finally some things that caught my eye
